Kicker Greg Zurlein wins Jets start
The Jets waived kicker Eddy Pineiro on Tuesday, indirectly claiming Greg Zuerlein as the kicker.
With former All-NBA player Zur Lane, the Jets are hoping for some long-awaited stability. This is the seventh straight year the Jets have named a different kicker to start. The Jets have gone through eight different kickers since the departure of Jason Myers in 2018 alone.
After being waived by the Cowboys in March, Zur Lane signed a one-year, $2 million deal with the Jets. Pinero also signed a one-year, $1.75 million contract with the team at the time. Last season, Pinero hit all 8 free-kick shots and 2 extra-point shots.
Zurlein had never previously played as a kicker for a team with colder home weather. His previous teams were either at the Dome (Cowboys, St. Louis Rams) or in warm weather (Los Angeles Rams).
